BLOGGER

I actually enjoy blogging its very relaxing especially when you get to choose your own topic. It also helps me get comfortable with typing. I have always enjoyed typing but never have I gotten to type on an every week basis. Blogging helps approve my writing also, I've noticed that I do a better job with my grammar and my content also. I also enjoy all the comments from my fellow classmates, as well as reading their blogs and commenting. I think that blogging is perfect way to socialize and to get to know people on more of a personal level. I remember talking about how much I love basketball and when I read the comments there was a lot of encouragement to continue on with my love for it. Its just nice to know that there are people that can relate to you. It also makes you feel good about your writing when you post a blog because your actually writing about something that you like and something you can relate to. I only struggled a little bit with my blog experience and that was actually creating it i could not figure out how to personalize my page. i kept going back and forth to the instructions to see if I missed anything. I honestly was trying to figure it out for like 20 mins. Obviously I figured out but I was getting a little upset when i first started my blog. Other then that i truly enjoy blogging.

Peer Reviews

Peer review was not only helpful it was interesting. It gave us time to see what someone else thought about our paper but also to see their style in writing. It wasn't anything I didn't like, but I like how our group took turns and explained our comment so that they are completely understandable. If there was a comment we didn’t understand or was not correct we were able to point it out without any problems. I was kind of confused when I started the paper on my own and I didn’t know exactly where to go with it. When one of my members told me to add more about my experiences, how literacy affected me through out my life, and not so much of defining literacy. We also took time out to make sure we understood each other’s point. At first we tried to guess each other’s points and it made it more interesting. I was able to come up with a point on what literacy meant to me and also how it affected me through my years in school. Personally I gained a lot of knowledge on what the audience may be looking for. At first I was confused about the topic and how we were supposed to go about it. When we had peer reviews it actually made clear what I was supposed to be writing about. They gave me ideas on how I could relate my paper to myself. I gained a lot of insight from the peer reviews. I feel like it would be very helpful to do it again.

Being A Role Model

I believe that being a role model is important to this day and age. Without positive role models in certain neighborhoods, it have an affect on how that community is brought up. Many teenager are very similar and and a lot of them follows the crowd and If the crowd is into doing negative things for fun then the followers see those things as cool and whats in. For instances In my old school fighting between certain parts of the city was very popular if you were not down with this group or then it created beef. It would be things; such as don't talk to her she from this side of town and you not. the kids younger then them would try to impress them and join the lil gangs or just try to do things to be seen. I was always the type to do my own thing and give the younger generation something to look forward to. I remember looking at me as though I was so cool when the other kids selling drugs or fighting when I would be working or at basket ball practice and how it feel to know that some of your old friends are in jail after graduation and I was in college trying to make something of myself. Kids dream and when they are brought up in a community where shooting somebody was cool rather than being successful. Kids need more people that are willing to set in example and give back to the community. Communities fall apart when there isn't anything to look forward to. I just want to live in a community where helping each other is more popular then much money you can make in the street. Bad thing is some people can't even help there situations, however many people give in to minimum wage and selling dime bags. It’s the F*@# it mentality that makes communities. I just would rather be a role model and give back to the community.

Playing Basketball

Man I love playing basketball I wish I could play right now. I know other people have hobbies but I don't think that they are as hooked as I am. Sometimes eve after I just finished playing and I'm exhausted I still feel the urge to play. I play almost every day I go to school now. I played in high school too. When I play I am in a different zone. Its attack mode nobody can stop me and you can't tell me anything. I love the feeling I get when I shoot a three right in some ones face. There’s times when I do I move I have clue where it came from I surprise myself a lot. I like when other guys doubt how good I am and even try to say I’m sorry. That’s when I really try to score as much as I can not to prove point but to challenge myself and to see if they are really as good as they say they are. I could play for the school if I applied myself. I have a lot going on and I hope I can make time for it. If not I will just keep playing recreational. The good about playing is it’s a good way to stay in shape and a great stress reliever. I prefer to play indoors but ill play outside to. It’s just that you have a better atmosphere. You don’t have to worry about rain or wind. When you’re indoors you get a different grip then what you get outside. If you were to fall the injury won’t be as bad as an outdoor injury. Like I said though I’ll play both places I love basketball.

Northers

I don't feel as I have a strong accent anymore you can only tell with certain words that I say like call pronouncing the all very strongly and saw. Point being I have more of a northern accent. I have been in NC for like six years though in go back very often to Maryland Philly and New York. I guess us being arrogant is somewhat true but not for everybody. I think most northerners want to sound like someone from the south because like Miss Wright said in he post people do look at southerners as being kind of stupid. I come to realize that many people can tell from a conversation that I’m not originally from NC or any southern State. I’ve been told that I am country and that by some southerners that they can tell I’m from up state. Just like there are different types of southern the same goes for up north Maryland, New York, and Philly clearly sound alike. The further you go up north the stronger the accent. There are certain words that some  Maryland people say Like dug instead of dog, or lor rather than little/lil. There are a lot more but those two stand out. Up state people usually talk a lot faster and more hand gestures all day but  and emotion when we talk. We also use different words to describe people like saying bammer (means your from the south), duckplucker (means whatever you want it to ), clown (lame),  and yo. I love that yo word I could say it all day. I say yo rather than dude or bro. Northerners usually seem like they are talking at you rather than to you. I don’t feel like that the way we speak is culture enriched.  One thing I don’t like is to be look at as If I am arrogant or self centered. I am a very open person and I don’t want people to judge me on what they think they now about northerners.

Literate or Illiterate

I was very interested in the discussions we had in class about literacy. I felt like we made valid points on what we felt about it. However we didn’t speak much about what is illiterate I feel as though that is what defines where literacy ends. For example no disrespect but people such as Gullah-Geechee are said to be illiterate. Many say that they speak a broken English however if you research their way of speaking they were here a long time ago. They actually speak with an African base dialect. I feel like literacy is the ability to read, write and for people to say that they are illiterate is an opinion. Just like people on facebook would you say they are illiterate for typing wat rather than what or r rather than are. It’s the groups’ way of communicating and there are many countries around the world that communicate differently then what grammar says is right. Literacy is very diverse just as well as we are and plays a very important role in our everyday life. Whether we are talking formally or socially. When it comes to literacy I think that there is a large grey area, which is open for discussion. I’m sure somebody else would explain literacy much differently then how I went about it. Is it to say that I am wrong and there definition is right or vice versa. My main thing is literacy is very indistinguishable. Grammar is also and I think that grammar is behind all of the different ways to explain literacy

Helping Hand

I am very big on being a helping hand. I love helping people move forward to succeed in life whether its just being a study partner or if its finically.  That is why I chose to become an Athletic Trainer I love sports and I love to help people get better at what they do. Athletic Trainers can also make a good living the salary range is very pleasing   and it would allow me to be a big help to love ones and friends around me. I would be able to start my own facilities to create jobs and promote wellness. In this day and time job are very hard to come by and if i get a chance to change that I would, not being able to buy pampers for  your child is not a good feeling I'm sure of it. I would also create recreational centers for children with low budgets. I feel as though it can give them hope and to give them encouragement to not give up and not to accept that they have to live like they live for the rest of there lives. Its like the community gives up on children when  they finish there last year of high school and I want to help those in need as much as I can. In some of my old neighborhoods indoor basketball courts were scarce, and outdoor basketball courts are only good for the summer. I was somewhat upset when I had no way of playing basketball when the school gyms where not recreational and the YMCA was to expensive for me, I would have to play in the cold or not at all. May not seem as important to some people but some people cope and even love playing so I can relate. That is more of why I like to create different center for children and even grown ups can even get away and  I want to help.
